The Short Version

The Knot's core product is a vendor marketplace that connects you to wedding professionals at no minimum fee to you; the company earns money by selling vendors paid visibility and advertising, not by charging couples directly. Elsker charges you directly, a one-time $289 payment after a 60-day free trial, and does not run a vendor marketplace or sell your data.

Cost to the Couple

The Knot Worldwide's terms of use state there are no minimum fees for members to use the Services, and any paid add-ons are optional. That's a terms-of-use statement, not a couple-facing pricing or FAQ page; no such page on theknot.com was reachable while researching this comparison. Elsker's Couple plan is a one-time payment of $289, after a 60-day free trial with no credit card required to start.

How Each Company Earns Money

The Knot Worldwide describes its core product as a vendor marketplace connecting couples with wedding professionals, alongside websites, planning tools and registry services. WeddingPro, TKWW's vendor-facing brand, offers a free basic directory listing plus paid tiers for expanded visibility, and its free tier reaches more than 15 million unique visitors a month. A 2025 change added a free Storefront option plus a lower-cost advertising tier combining a base subscription fee with a pay-for-performance budget the vendor chooses. How the registry service generates revenue is not disclosed on any page reachable for this comparison. Elsker's revenue comes from the Couple and Planner plans only: no advertising, no vendor marketplace, no data sales.

Who Sees Your Contact Details

If you message a vendor through The Knot's Services, TKWW's privacy policy says it may disclose information, including the message contents, so the vendor can respond to you. The same policy says TKWW may also disclose your information to affiliates and other third parties for marketing, and that ads shown to you may be based on activity across other websites, not only TKWW's own. You can ask TKWW not to contact you for marketing by email, mail or phone, but that means contacting the company directly; no self-serve opt-out toggle is described. TKWW's California notice lists demographic, user-generated-content, device, usage, general-location and social-media data as categories disclosed to unaffiliated third parties for purposes that may count as a sale or share under California law, though precise geolocation is excluded. Elsker will never share your guest list, budget or preferences with anyone, or let a vendor pay to reach your inbox or phone. Its Privacy Policy adds that it does not sell data to third parties and uses only essential cookies, with no third-party tracking or advertising cookies.

Vendor Marketplace

The Knot Worldwide connects more than 4.5 million users with around 900,000 global small businesses through its Vendor Marketplace each year. Its terms of use make no guarantee to vendors about any minimum number of leads or other performance outcomes, and TKWW reserves the right to limit how much space any one vendor or category gets; free listings don't guarantee placement. Whether The Knot visually marks a sponsored or featured vendor result differently from an organic one could not be confirmed from the pages reachable for this comparison. Elsker has no vendor marketplace: vendors cannot pay to access you or to reach your inbox or phone.

Cultural Tradition Support

Elsker ships 29 cultural tradition libraries, covering practices from Hindu to Hawaiian and Jewish to Japanese. Practice within any one tradition still varies by family, region and community, so treat the libraries as a starting checklist, not a universal script. The pages reviewed for this comparison did not address whether or how The Knot supports specific cultural or religious wedding traditions, so no comparison is made here.

Export and Ownership of Data

Elsker's Terms of Service state that if the Couple plan isn't working for you before your wedding date, Elsker refunds the one-time payment in full and you keep your data export. If a trial or paid period ends without payment, the account goes read-only: your data is kept, export stays open, and nothing is deleted. Planner subscriptions can be cancelled at any time, with access continuing to the end of the paid period. The pages reviewed for this comparison did not address a couple's ability to export their own data from The Knot.

When The Knot Is the Better Choice

The Knot's vendor marketplace gives you far more vendors to browse in one directory than Elsker does, since Elsker has no marketplace at all. If comparing many vendors in a single place matters more to you than the data handling described above, that scale is a real reason to use The Knot. TKWW's terms of use also state there's no minimum fee to use the Services, so if you only want marketplace access and website tools, and you accept that data handling, it costs you nothing directly. The Knot Worldwide operates a family of related brands too (The Knot, WeddingWire, Bodas and The Bump), so if you're already using one of those, staying inside that family may be more convenient than switching.

Elsker Pricing and the Trial

Elsker's Couple plan costs $289, charged once, after a free 60-day trial that needs no credit card. The Planner plan, for people managing weddings professionally, is $129 a month or $1,290 a year. Elsker charges at all because a platform that's free to couples is usually funded by selling access to those couples to vendors instead, and Elsker would rather charge you directly. If your trial or paid period ends, your account doesn't disappear: it goes read-only, your data is kept, and export stays open.

Plan Without a Vendor Marketplace
